“The people are immensely likeable— cheerful, extrovert, quick-witted, and unfailingly obliging. Their cities are safe and clean and nearly always built on water. They have a society that is prosperous, well ordered, and instinctively egalitarian. The food is excellent. The beer is cold. The sun nearly always shines. There is coffee on every corner. Life doesn’t get much better than this.”
― Bill Bryson

Ever since I was little I’ve been fascinated by Australia. I dreamed of learning to surf, spending all day on the beaches and scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef.

When I made a drunken decision to travel to Australia with a friend from university on a night out, I wasn’t sure she’d remember the next morning. Fortunately she did. And so a few months later we spent a month travelling up the East Coast of Australia from Sydney to Cairns. In Cairns I realised my dreams and learnt to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef. It was every bit as incredible as you’d think.

Five years later I was lucky enough to win flights to Australia and took Thom along with me. We only have a week (crazy I know) but explored some of the places closer to Sydney.

I’m sure I’ll go back some time in the future.
