A recent trip back home to Norfolk was full of hopes of taking to the sea for some more kitesurfing. However hopes were dashed when the wind failed to show and then reappeared with too much force the following day. To pick up our spirits and crushed dreams of looking like a kitesurfing pro, we headed to recently opened Eric’s Fish and Chips.
It must be said from the off that Eric’s is no ordinary Fish and Chips.
You won’t find any sorry looking peas of bits of meat pretending to be sausages at Eric’s Fish and Chips. Nor will you leave with a sicky stomach after devouring too much grease and start wishing you hadn’t given into the cravings.
What you will find are cod, pollock and Gurnard cooked in a perfectly light batter, halloumi and spinach arancini, grilled squid, pea & ham fritters and big, juicy shell on prawns.
If you have room then definitely try the homemade ice cream. It’s made just up the road at the award winning Titchewell Manor and is the perfect way to finish off you fish and chip dinner!
The inside has a rustic feel to it, almsot Scandi. Whilst some have apparently described this as “unfinshed”, most of us would use the word “cool”.
Homemade sauces (how often do you get that at a Chippy?) are lined up on the counter, and come in exciting flavours that make a welcome change from just ketchup. Garlic mayo coloured with squid ink anyone? I can vouch for its tastiness.
This is how fish and chips should be done.
