This summer is turning out to be a pretty good one. The weather is nice, Murray is on top form at Wimbledon The weather is nice, Murray is on top form at Wimbledon (fingers crossed for today!) and, aside from the small matter of the #tubestrike, the Londoners seem to be enjoying the most of the Great British summer by heading outside for nibbles and drinks or music festivals.
The Royal Horseguards Hotel have recently introduced their Summer Chapter which makes the most of their newly refurbished, shady oasis of a terrace; one of the best places to sit away from prying eyes with views out on to the London Eye and the Thames.
Filled with pretty pot plants, shaded by bright pink blossom and made cosy with cushioned wicker seating, the Terrace was the perfect setting for an evening of catching up with friends whilst sipping on Taittinger and eating delicious canapés in glorious summertime weather.
The main event of the Summer Chapter at The Royal Horseguards Hotel, is the summer picnic hamper which gives you the opportunity to build your own picnic from a selection of charcuterie, cheeses and sweets.
Having sampled a selection of the treats you can order for your hamper I can speak first hand for their quality and superior tastes. Trust me, this isn’t any ordinary picnic hamper.
Simply choose 9 items from a wide range of charcuterie, cheese and sweets which include such tasty treats as; grilled sour dough, salamis, Parma ham, balsamic onion, pastrami, and cream cheese stuffed peppers (my favourite!), black bomber (the mightiest of cheddars), grapes, apple & port chutney and for desserts, chocolate brownies, blondies, chocolate dipped strawberries and the lightest most flavoursome macarons you’ve ever tried.
The hamper also comes with a half bottle of Taittinger Champagne to wash down the delicious food.
Sip the crisp bubbles of Taittinger whilst your hamper is served on a traditional gingham tablecloth in the serenity and five star luxury of The Royal Horseguards terrace. You’ll feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle just a few streets away.
Even if a hamper isn’t your thing, I seriously recommend you visit the terrace just to try the recent additions to the cocktail list. The aperol spritz summer cocktail features a scoop of aperol spritz sorbet (brilliant idea!) topped with champagne, whilst other creations will refresh you down on a hot day. Be warned though – they go down very easily!
Each picnic hamper costs £59.00 and serves two people. Find out more here.
