Vancouver’s North Shore is world famous for its tricky trails that include a mix of awesome flow trails and technical trails. There are also unique features such as ladders, skinnies (thin tree trunks laid horizontally to ride over) and jumps.

Having spent six years living in Vancouver BC and finding my own mountain bike rentals in the city before we bought our own, I’ve tried my fair share of mountain bike rental shops in Vancouver.

I’ve also got plenty of experience riding trails on the North Shore, Squamish, mountain biking at Whistler and in other places around Vancouver and metro Vancouver including Delta Watershed and the Port Moody area.

Best mountain bike rental, Vancouver BC

There are many places to rent a bike in Vancouver, especially if you’re not strictly mountain biking. If you’re looking to cycle around Stanley Park or ride in the Seymour Conservation area’s paved trail, then you won’t need a mountain bike. For those Vancouver bike rides you can just get a cheaper option.

However, if you’re looking to mountain bike on the trails in Squamish and Vancouver’s North Shore then you’ll want a mountain bike; ideally one with full suspension rather than a hardtail. You can also go for an electric bike mountain bike rental if you’re not a big fan of climbing up hills.

There are a few easier green trails on the North Shore and in Squamish where you can get away with a hardtail, but you’re going to have a whole lot more fun with a full-suspension bike!

Endless Biking is the best mountain bike rental store in Vancouver. Based in North Vancouver, Endless Biking specialise in mountain bikes and have a large range of bikes for rental.

They also offer lessons in mountain biking and mountain biking tours.

I took their beginner’s mountain biking lesson and it gave me so much more confidence that I was doing things ‘right’ and was the perfect way to improve my skills ahead of our mountain biking trip in the Chilcotins.

Endless Bikes uses Rocky Mountain bikes with the best components. It’s actually where my husband and I bought our bikes from and they did us well both on the North Shore, Squamish trails and the downhill mountain biking parks at Sun Peaks, Silver Star, and Whistler.

From Endless Biking, you can cycle up to Mt Fromme or the trails on the lower half of Seymour pretty easily. Or, if you drive you can drive up through the parking lot at Fromme fills up quickly so you may not be able to find parking right at the trailheads.

Norco North Shore mountain bike rental

Norco North Shore is another mountain bike rental option in North Vancouver. Their rental fleet of rental bikes are Norco e-bikes and renting them is a great opportunity to demo the latest Norco electric mountain bikes or try out the North Shore mountain biking trails but without the effort of pedalling uphill.

All rental bikes at Norco North Shore come fitted with flat pedals, a 900-watt battery and a charger. If you wish to bring your own pedals, they can install them on your rental bike for you.

Rental rates are $130 for 24hrs and these mountain bike rentals can be reserved online in advance.

Their store is located near the north Vancouver MEC. It’s an easy bike ride from here up towards Inter River Park where there is a pump track and access to some of the Lower Seymour Mountain biking trails.

Essential Cycles

Essential Cycles in North Vancouver is another great mountain bike rental store in Vancouver.

Their mountain bike fleet includes Commencal mountain bikes that are great for riding mountain biking trails on the North Shore.

They’ll also drop bikes off at North Vancouver mountain biking trailheads so you won’t need to pedal up to the trailhead or try and fit a mountain bike in your car. But that’s still an option if you’re looking for a warmup!

Mountain Bike rental options start from full-day to multi-day with a discount offered for multi-day rentals. Bikes must be returned by 5 pm on the day you rent them.

For 8 hours rental, a full-suspension bike costs $95 and a week-long mountain bike rental is $455 making it a great option for bike rentals North Vancouver.

Stanley Park & downtown mountain biking tour

My first mountain bike rental was from Flying Spirit Rentals in Squamish. They’re not the fanciest mountain bikes, but if you’re new to mountain biking they’re great bikes for a great price.

For our first mountain bike experience, the trails that you can pedal to in a few minutes from Flying Spirit were perfect. Wonderland goes straight to the rental store and it’s a great beginner-friendly trail.

You’re also not far from Alice Lakes which has tonnes of trails to explore. I recommend getting an e-bike for this as there’s a lot of uphill climbing. Though it’s perfectly doable without an e-bike too (that’s how I did it!).
