Haukland Beach and Uttakliev Beach coastal walk
If you’re looking for an easy hike in Lofoten the Haukland Beach hike to Uttakliev Beach is a great option for some Lofoten Islands hiking.
This easy hiking trail in the Lofoten Islands takes you to two of the most popular beaches in Lofoten. They’re both beautiful Lofoten beaches surrounded by stunning mountains and have sandy beach areas with crystal clear waters.
Similar to Eggum and Unstad beaches, it’s possible to walk between Uttakliev and Haukland beaches via a coastal path.
This coastal walk is much easier and shorter than the Eggum to Unstad coastal walk and is mostly flat on easy terrain. It’s ideal for walking, running or cycling.

Walking from Haukland beach and Uttakliev beach
The trail from Haukland Beach follows the coastline around the point and then loops down into Uttakliev Beach.
The trail is a wide gravel trail and there’s virtually no elevation gain. It would make a great walk with children, or for a catch up with friends.
If you’re visiting Lofoten it’s also a great way to visit both beaches without having to pay for parking at each one.
The trail goes past some interesting rocks out in the sea and you get gorgeous views that show off the green-blue waters.

As you approach Uttakliev beach, head down onto the rocks and see if you can find the dragon’s eye!

Then, head back the way you came on the coastal path as walkers are not allowed through the tunnel that connects the two roads.
Stats for walking from Haukland beach to Uttakliev beach
- Distance: 4km each way
- Duration: 1-2 hours
- Difficulty: Easy
- Elevation: Minimal

More hikes near Haukland Beach and Uttakliev Beach
If you’re looking for a harder hike near Haukland Beach and Uttakliev Beach. Below are two hikes where you’ll need to hike uphill.
While they’re more effort than the coastal walk between the two beaches, they do offer spectacular views down onto the beaches and surrounding areas.
Mannen hike Lofoten
Mannen Mountain is one of the easier hikes in Lofoten with no serious exposure or hard scrambling needed.
It sits at just 400 m above sea level and gives you amazing views of Haukland beach in particular.
You can follow the Mannen mountain trail down to Uttakliev and then return to the car via the coastal trail.
From Haukland beach to Mannen mountain summit it’s about a 4.5 km return trip and takes around 3 hours.
Veggen Mountain hike Lofoten
Veggen Mountain is a quieter alternative than the somewhat popular Mannen hike. It gives you a view of Uttakliev Beach rather than Haukland Beach.
It’s only accessible from Uttakliev so you’ll need to start from there.
Veggen is steeper than Mannen but you’re really rewarded for the extra effort when you get to enjoy views of Uttakliev beach that few people see.
The return trip to Veggen from Uttalkiev Beach is around 2.5 km and takes around 3 hours.

Trailhead for the Haukland to Uttakliev beach walk
You can do this hike from either Haulkand Beach Norway or Uttakliev Beach.
At both beaches, there is a car park and you need to pay for both. Uttakliev beach is sometimes busier since its green grassy area in the mountain valleys, the boulders by the coast, and the ‘dragon’s eye’ in the rocks by the sea are very popular with photographers.
At Haukland beach in summer there’s a beach cafe and kayak and paddleboard rentals.
We parked at Haukland Beach and then walked towards Uttakliev.
Some of the parking at Haukland has a height restriction and won’t be suitable for large motorhomes. At Uttakliev you might find the parking full and be told you can’t stop as the space is reserved for campers.
The busy nature of these two Lofoten beaches is one of the reasons we loved our visit to Lofoten in winter. We didn’t have to deal with traffic, people and not being able to find Haukland Beach parking!
Final thoughts on the Haukland Beach hike
This guide has told you (hopefully) everything you need to know about how to hike Haukland Beach in the Lofoten Islands Norway.
The Haukland hike is pretty easy in comparison to a lot of Lofoten Islands hikes since it’s flat and on a mostly paved trail. However, you still get some great views and get to discover two of the best Lofoten beaches at the same time.
As well. asviews, you’ll get to visit the famous Dragons Eye Norway which is a peculiar rock formation and color that looks a bit like a Dragon eye is staring back at you. The Dragon Eye Norway point of interest is popular with photographers so look for people with tripods and you’ve probably found it!
If you’re looking for camping in Lofoten, this is a great area, and you can combine this easier hike with a harder one like the Mannen Lofoten hike.
