niagara falls sunrise in winter

1. Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls has always been synonymous with romance, and for good reason. It is one of the most popular destinations in Canada, offering a variety of romantic experiences for couples in Ontario.

Niagara Falls may be a cliché destination for romance, but there’s an allure to it that keeps bringing people back. It’s an ideal location for a quick getaway from Toronto, with lots of hotels and romantic weekend getaway packages on offer.

Spring and summer are the perfect seasons to visit Niagara Falls, with incredible floral displays in the many gardens throughout the city and along the Niagara Parkway. The Horseshoe Falls are especially majestic during golden hour. Whether that’s sunrise or sunset is up to you.

Visiting Niagara Falls in winter shouldn’t be overlooked though. The first time my husband and I visited Niagara Falls together was in the middle of winter was freezing cold, but the sunrise was amazing, and the snowy falls were magical to see!

I’ve also been in summer when I spend 6 weeks studying abroad in Montreal and this season is perfect for going on the Maid of the Mist boat rides into the falls.

You can see Niagara Falls from both the Canadian and American sides. I’ve done both and if you’re wondering which is best I think it’s easily the Canadian side! It’s here you’ll see the best views of the horseshoe-shaped falls and you can get so close to the edge of the falls it feels like you can almost touch them.

One of the most romantic things to do at Niagara Falls is to enjoy a meal overlooking the falls. The Niagara Parks’ Table Rock Restaurant is a top pick for this, it has delicious local eats at very reasonable prices. They also do a mean Sunday Brunch if you’re looking for the perfect way to start your Sunday. The Skylon Tower is another option for a memorable meal while enjoying a bird’s eye view of the falls from their revolving restaurant.

How to see Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in the world, and there are several ways to view this stunning display of nature.

For those who want to experience the falls from the edge, the Hornblower Niagara Funicular is a great option. Take a stroll along the cliff of the waterfall and get up close to where the falls go over the edge.

If you’re looking to get even closer to the cascading water, consider purchasing a Journey Behind the Falls entry ticket. This will allow you to view the falls from a unique perspective and feel the thundering sound of the water as it crashes to the bottom.

One of my favorite trips to Niagara Falls was to take a boat tour up close to the falls on the Maid of the Mist boats. You will get wet, but it’s a super fun/.

If you want to take in the falls from above, there are a couple of great options. helThe Skylon Tower Observation Deck provides a bird’s eye view of the falls, and the panoramic vista is nothing short of spectacular. If you and your partner are adventurous types, check out this zipline ride over Niagara Falls! Or opt for a scenic helicopter flight over the falls which is perfect for your romantic getaway in Ontario.

Where to stay in Niagara Falls, Ontario

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay during your romantic getaway in Ontario near Niagara Falls there are plenty of options to choose from. However, be careful when booking your stay as some hotels may photoshop the falls into their images, making it look like you have a falls view when you actually don’t.

One of the most popular places to stay is the Hilton Niagara Falls/Fallsview Hotel. This hotel offers breathtaking views of the falls with rooms and suites featuring floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

For an even more impressive view, consider staying at the Tower Hotel, which is almost 100 metres above the ground. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls, and the Niagara River.
